- Is it legal to donate to Venezuela from the US?
- Yes, until October 23, 2026. The US Treasury issued OFAC General License 60 on June 25, 2026. It authorizes humanitarian transactions related to the earthquake that would otherwise be prohibited by existing sanctions.
- What happens after October 23, 2026?
- If the license is not extended, humanitarian transactions will again require explicit OFAC authorization. This page will be updated if there are developments. Check the current status at ofac.treasury.gov.
- Can I send money directly to a family member?
- Remittances to individuals in Venezuela were already allowed with certain limitations before GL60. Ria announced on its corporate blog (June 25, 2026 — exclusive attribution to the operator, not a neutral source) that transfers to Venezuela are fee-free through July 15, 2026. Other operators may have announced similar measures, but as of 2026-07-01 we have not been able to confirm official statements from other operators. Verify current terms directly with the operator before sending.
- Can I donate from Spain, Colombia or Chile?
- Yes. The listed NGOs (UNICEF, UNHCR, Red Cross, Save the Children, IRC) have offices in many countries and accept international donations. OFAC sanctions apply to persons and entities subject to US jurisdiction; outside that scope, other rules apply.
- What does GL60 NOT authorize?
- It does not authorize transactions with individuals or entities individually designated by OFAC, the purchase of Venezuelan assets, or operations not directly related to earthquake humanitarian aid.
